SPECIAL PEDIATRIC ASSESSMENT CLINIC The Special Pediatric Assessment Clinic (SPACe) is a collaborative multi-disciplinary assessment program for children ages 0-8 years. The assessment encompasses the child’s abilities related to: speech and language, swallowing and eating, fine and gross motor skills, core stability, coordination, attention and concentration, memory, tracking, cognitive functioning and learning, impulse control, sensory functioning, body proportion, height/weight, physical anomalies, over all physical health, growth and development, social skills and interaction, organizational skills, play skills, and independent functioning.
SPACe is conducted by a special team composed of a speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and developmental behavioral specialist. This team works together through the entire assessment process and collaborating on the final diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
A coordinated report with specific recommendations for the child’s care is provided as is a feedback session to review the assessment results and the recommendations made by the assessing specialists. Consultation regarding the assessment outcomes and recommendations is provided to the primary care physician and other health care providers involved with the child.
SPACe is available to children ages Birth-8 years old.
LEARNING CHALLENGES CLINIC The Learning Challenges Clinic is provided by a collaborative evaluation team who administer comprehensive assessments for school-aged children with learning difficulties. The Learning Challenges Clinic examines for learning disabilities or related diagnoses, as well as emotional and behavioral health which can impact academic achievement. Areas evaluated include: attention, impulse control, executive functioning skills, reading and spelling, writing, speech, hearing, language processing, social communication skills, depression, and anxiety. The clinical evaluation includes:
An in-depth intake session with parents/guardians to obtain relevant information
Individual face- to-face assessments with the student
Feedback session with parents/guardians to discuss results, provide recommendations, and help to create a plan of action to assist the student
The mission of the Learning Challenges Clinic is to provide a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary assessment that allows evaluators to examine individual needs, root challenges, and unique strengths in order to assist each student in reaching their full academic potential.
